Rātā

The NorthShip song, Rātā, draws inspiration from the well-known Māori and Polynesian legend about a young man who builds a waka (canoe) to avenge his father’s murder but faces supernatural obstacles after failing to respect the forest spirits. After enchanted birds and insects rebuild a tree he cut down without permission, Rātā learns to respect nature, and in turn, the spirits help him complete his quest.
